Our guesthouse won’t be complete without an independent little cottage for those that would like to self-cater. It is very popular for short term as well as long term stays.
GRANITE GREY is an independent, safe and secure unit with its own little garden, kitchenette and veranda where you can have a traditional braai overlooking the famous Paarl Rock. The name Granite Grey is chosen in honour of the school that formed so many of South Africa’s leaders in business, sport and culture, Paarl Boy’s High, and which is the alma mater of the owner.
HEREWITH THE SCHOOLS’ ANTHEM REFERRING TO THE NAME OF OUR SELF-CATERING UNIT:
Neath the far-famed rock of granite grey
Stands a school the best all people say
Boys and youths to train and educate
Model men to rear for Church and State

For the school, renowned from Berg to Vaal
Is the Boys’ High School of Upper Paarl.

Our guesthouse would not be complete without a room named after the Paarl.
When our village was founded at the foot of Paarl Rock in 1690, it was named Paarl. The name in Dutch means "a pearl" and was derived from the fact that the granite rocks (Paarl Rock) which crown the hillside above our town glistened after rainfall like pearls or diamonds. Pearl in Afrikaans is ‘pêrel’.
